Christine + Peter 10.23.2009

Christine and Peter's wedding was a little different from my past weddings. You see, Christine is my cousin-in-law and my daughter's godmother.

So, I had to be a mother, guest and wedding planner.

Anna & David September 12, 2009

I had a wonderful time helping this vibrant couple with their late summer wedding. The beautiful ceremony was held at Minirou Chapel with a traditional italian reception at Roma Hall.

These beautiful photographs are courtesy of LS Photography and the beautiful decor was from the very talented Bobi.

I received this very sweet note from the bride a few weeks after her wedding:
''We wanted to thank you for all your help with our wedding. You and your husband were such a huge help in keeping our wedding smooth and organized. I can't imagine if you guys weren't there. We really appreciate your assistance and you did such a wonderful job. You both were a pleasure to work with. ''

Kind words like that are what makes it all worth it!!

Congratulations Anna and David!!

Robyn and Shervin - July 5, 2008

Happy One Year!!

Talk about long distance relationships! I helped plan this amazing couple's wedding while they were living in Shanghai and I was here in Vancouver. Sometimes the time difference really got me!

Robyn and Shervin were living in Shanghai but are originally from Vancouver. They decided to fly back and surprise their close family and friends by getting married! Their beautiful reception was held at the peak of Vancouver, Grouse Mountain.

If you get a chance hop over to my other blog Lola's Girl. I recently opened up an Etsy shop. I sell sweet and simple children's clothing at a very affordable price (an example pictured above). Take a peek at my shop, leave a comment on my blog or buy an item and support my fabric addiction.

i heart handmade

I just got some new business cards made. They are handmade and gorgeous. When I say handmade, I literally mean handmade... do you see all those beautiful itty bitty flowers on the wedding dress? Those were hand punched and glued on individually. And the itty bitty bow? painstakingly tied by hand. The gorgeous damask background? each one stamped by hand. That is why I heart handmade, a lot of time and effort has gone into making each item. Each item is unique. When ever I hand out my business card, I feel like I have just handed out a little piece of art.

If you heart handmade too, visit Etsy and stop by Imeon Design. She is the genius behind my little itty bitty pieces of handmade art.

sewing sunday

Zoe requested that I make matching outfits for her and her sister's doll. Actually what she said to me was something along the lines of "Mommy, my dolly and Pia's dolly NEEDS matching outfits!".

Ok, how can I say no to a request for matching outfits? I don't know if it's the control freak in me, but I ADORE matchy matchy! Nothing can be "too matching" in my opinion.

Oh by the way, I broke down and joined Twitter. Come follow me (I have no idea where I am going yet, but wherever it is, matchy, matchy will not be looked down upon !)

Happy Mommies Day!

Zoe made this for me for Mother's Day. She is learning about rhyming words in school and written on the flower pot is a little poem that she made up for me:

" Mommy, you are so sweet
Mommy, you are so nice
Mommy, please don't ever leave me
because you make the best rice!"

I think it's the best poem ever written by a 3 1/2 year old! Haha!

From one mommy to another... Happy Mommies Day!

naps-my guilty pleasure

When I was younger, single and childless, I did not believe in naps. I thought naps were a waste of time. My husband (who was my boyfriend at the time) would often take naps in the middle of the day and be unreachable for hours. This made me very mad. I thought he was being selfish, irresponsible and just plain lazy.

When I was pregnant with my first daughter, like any new mom-to-be, I read as much literature on parenting as possible. I read several different books, on-line articles and magazines, and one piece of advice for all the new moms that was consistent in all of them was: nap when your newborn baby is napping. Being the naive young thing, and not yet a mom, I thought to myself, ha! I will use that time to do laundry, clean the house and cook. I will NOT be lazy and nap!

Fast foward a few years and 2 babies, and I now know, that as a mom to a newborn, naps are necessary for your sanity! (unless of course you can survive on 2 hours of sleep a night).

Since my babies no longer get up every 2 hours to nurse, I don't need to nap for my sanity any longer. But I still do strongly believe in naps... for THEM. When they nap, I can clean, cook, do wedding stuff, surf the net, blog (you get the idea).

But, surprisingly, I have come around to believing in naps (name me one person who doesn't.. oh yah.. that was me!) and sometimes (ok, more than sometimes) I will lay down in between my 2 sweet daughters and nap with them.

Who can resist a nap with 2 sweet-smelling, cuddly little girls, on a rainy Saturday afternoon.?

Not me... so I guess I will indulge myself today.

Spring Wedding

I'm so excited to be helping Emily, fabulous creator of extraordinary wedding cakes (MCakes) with her spring wedding. She will be having her wedding and reception at the UBC Boathouse.

It's going to be a fun and casual affair. Emily and her fiance Chris have told me that they just ''want to have fun!'' Those are the best kind of weddings!

Will post pics as soon as soon as I can!

beauty=me beauty=you

Dove sponsored a "design your own pyjama's contest" for blossoming designers between the ages of 7-10 years old. And a 10 year old little girl named Riley Matwick won.

The pj's are blue with yellow stars, multi-coloured rainbows and white and pink flowers. The stars, say Riley reflect her feeling that everyone is a shining star, the multi-coloured rainbows points to the beautiful, colourful nature of each individual and the flowers are a symbol of the unique qualities everyone possesses.

She came up with the pant design which was completed with the saying: beauty=me, beauty=you.

The contest challenged young girls to come up with a pyjama design that expressed their vision of "beauty".

"My wish is that everybody notices that they are unique and beautiful just the way they are." said Riley on her pyjama design.

How refreshing is it to hear a young girl say that beauty is about uniqeness and being an individual? This article just lifted a little bit of weight off my shoulders when I think about what kind of society I have to raise my 2 little girls in.

Thank you Riley!

Grey is the ''New'' Chocolate Brown

The hottest colour for this wedding season is grey! Personally, I have adored the colour grey for a long time (my entire house is painted grey!), and I am happy that it's finally getting it's fair share in the spotlight! Here is what the knot.com has to say:

"Steel gray will replace chocolate brown as the accent color. We absolutely love this soft yet deep hue teamed with butter yellow, bright aqua, rich eggplant, or pale pink. It's so versatile! Introduce the color in your stationery, either in the typeface or paper, and then gradually build it into your reception space by way of slate gray table accents and pewter-toned bridesmaid dresses with a contrasting sash."

I still love chocolate brown though... hmmm... a chocolate brown and grey wedding? maybe not!

handmade

I am in love with this hand cream made by Philosophy. It does not leave my hands greasy and it leaves them smelling so yummy, like lemon custard! Best of all, Philosophy products all have their own philosophy printed on the package, this one says:

"create with your hands, heal with your hands,
touch with your hands, work with your hands,
extend your hands and pray with your hands"

Who knew a hand cream could be so inspirational?

PostSecret.blogspot.com

I came across this blog surfing the net today. The premise behind it is people mail in their secrets (good and bad) on one side of a postcard, and then the blogger posts it on his blog for the whole world to see.

Some of the secrets are cute and funny. Some of the secrets made my stomach turn.

Check it out for yourself http://postsecret.blogspot.com/
